Anyone able to give a good description as to what a shallow mount sub sounds like in comparison to a regular sized sub? I am looking at the JL TW series 2.5" shallow mount in 12" and 13" sizes.

Ive never heard a shallow mount sub before so im really considering doing the rear seat cut down and box install again, but before I do that I thought I would give this a whirl...

Thanks!

I have done a lot of research on these and have decided to go with the memphis s class stuff. i have only personally heard the kicker shallow mounts but they dont really get low bass. Im sure the JL's are good. they look like a great design and have a good name behind them but they are really expensive. i chose to go with the memphis becasue i think they will be close to the sound of the jl for half the price. the memphis should ship out by the end of this month. the first production line of them was sent back because an exec listened to them and said they didnt sound as good as the prototype and he said he wouldnt sell them until he made them sound as good as the prototypes which was supposedly really good. so i believe when they do come out they will be the best bang for the buck... another problem with the kickers is that even though they are shallow they require as much air space as the full size sub therefore defeating their purpose. hope this helps

I have 10" pioneer shallow mount, and it sounds perfect to me, compares to a regular mount 10" so much so, there is not a difference. I built a custom box based on the specs from Pioneer to fit behind my seat and it sounds just as good as other systems I have done in my other cars in the past, quite happy with it and would recommend that sub to everyone who was looking for one. Not too mention the cost, very affordable, found online for right around 100 bucks.

I wanted to keep the factory look but with better sound so I replaced the original sub with a Pioneer 8" shallow and I love it. I also upgraded the amp that pushes it and between the two there is more than enough bass for me. Now I don't like it crazy loud but I can easily rattle the windows of the car next to me and it still be nice clean bass!

i forgot to mention i spoke with an audio shop about the pioneer shallow subs a while back and they were very complimentary of them. highly recommended them.

Hmmm interesting.

Maybe this is worth a shot after all, lol.... Thats the problem with the net, 50% of the people say they kick butt 50% say they suck arse....

Never know till you try I guess.

I have a friend that has 2 (cheap) 12s in her Accord. She told me yesterday that she was mad because my single 10 hits harder.
