When the truck wants to shift up it studders and hesitates but then eventually kicks forward. Can anyone please help me figure out how it’s doing and and why.

Your post & profile are missing vehicle specs;
my MindReading abilities are fading fast (according to my wife anyway).
Year? Engine? Auto\Manual? Transmission? 2WD\4WD?
Is OD OFF Lamp blinking?
Do all gears work 1st, 2nd, Drive, OD, Reverse?
Does it OverRev while trying to shift?
Does problem only occur forward or reverse or certain speeds?
Have you scanned OBD2 port for SAEStandard & FordProprietary TroubleCodes?
How many miles on vehicle? How many miles on Tranny?
When was Tranny ATF+Filter lasted changed?
Recent maintanence or part changes or notable events?

It’s an 04. I don’t no the mileage on the tranny the mileage on the truck is 176,000. The problem happens when I’m going forward, it seems to be in or around 5th gear when shifting. Automatic transmission, 2.0L flex fuel. It’s a 4W Drive.

Sure it's a 2.0L; think 2001~2005 ExST only came with V6~4.0L~SOHC?

Does "OD OFF" lamp in lower right corner of InstrumentCluster blink when shifting problem happens?
Does "OD OFF" lamp come on when you press the OD button on the end of the ShiftLever?

Does OD OFF lamp come on when you toggle the ShiftLever button?

That bulb is likely burned out; a seperate issue.
Do you have a scanner to read OBD2 port TroubleCodes?

Scanner Make+Model? Will it read both SAEStandard + FordProprietary tranny codes?

Not ever used an Innova; I've got an OBDLink#MX+.
Try your scanner, see what TroubleCodes come up?

I've got to disconnect for awhile.
Post your TroubleCodes & I'll respond later.

P0193 indicates a fuel pressure problem. Could be a number of causes, from a failing pump, clogged filter, bad regulator, to leaking hose.

Had the exact same p0193 trouble code after my truck stalled and would not start. Don't like throwing parts, but was an easy and inexpensive fix.

Compared to original fuel rail pressure sensor and was identical. Dealer quoted $110.
