I have an 04 x xls 4.0 auto, I noticed that shifting is not as "fliud" as I thought it would, something it feels like a stick-shift... is not jerky or harsh but you can feel the pauses between gear shift and if you pay close attention, you can feel it bouncying you back&forward...

also, I noticed that throtle response is not immediate; for example, when cornering, you cruse entering the curve, and when you are coming out of it, you press the accellerator a little bit to regain speed, but instead of being a smooth gradual increase, the truck "jumps" a little bit and then accellerated... I have to push the pedal really soft to avoid that.

questions about these issues:

1. should i be concerned about any of these issues?

2. has anybody experience any of these?

3. is there anything I can do to improve them?

I even tried unplugging the battery to hopefulle reset the computer, but no luck

should I be concerned about this

The trans is probably the 2-3 flairthat is common..did you do the racall for the additive to the trans??

I had a simular problem with a T-Bird when cornering. The problem was when below 1/2 tank of fuel, when cornering. The fix was that the pickup screen on the fuel pump had fell off. The fuel pump on the T-Bird sits in a chanelled tray so when you corner there is fuel to be picked up..I dont know if the trac has the same..but it sounds as if you are loosing fuel pick up when cornering...

The tranny is a poor design, IT actually locks in 2 gears before letting go of the lower gear, then locking in the higher gear... It is a silly operation.. This is where you get all the slipping, burning, and herky jerky feelings...

The Only thing you can do is get a performance chip or Flasher and compensate for this, Butt it will make the tranny act differently, and shift firmer and les eratic...
