I liked the Monroe Reflex on the front with KYB Monomax on the rear, and that was without any other upgrades to the suspension. I now have Tokico TrekMaster's all around for the past 2 yrs., and it is a good ride. But, not a great ride. Sometime in the coming year I am going to change shocks again. I am considering my options. Since I have already put Roadmaster Active Suspension on the lear springs, and upgraded the front end links: 1. Being Rancho RSX on the front with Rancho 5000 on the rear; 2. KYB Monomax on the front, and Explorer Pro Comp MX6 Monotube adjustables on the rear. 3. Ranhco RSX all around.

Yeah, Monroe or RSX's IMO...

If I may make a suggestion though, wait a couple of months if you can before buying / replacing them. I say this because March & Sept/Oct always brings a BOGO or buy 3 get 4 offer.

Good luck with whatever you do but once you change the OEM's out, you will notice a BIG difference!!!

Bill,

No, I originally had replaced the OEM shocks with Monroe Reflex all around; then after less than a year the right rear one went bad. So, at the recommendation of Dave at EE I put KYB Monomax on the rear. After I put the A.R.E. cap on they were too stiff with the addition of the Roadmaster Active Suspension, so I put the Tokico's all around which have been on for about 2 yrs. now. I put the RAS on because the cap raised the ctr. of gravity causing more sway, as well as adding more weight. Now with the additional weight on the rear the front is lighter making it feel not as much in control. Given that the '01 & '02 ST's have a softer frame, and with the 245/70/16 Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza's which make for more unsprung weight than the OEM 235/70/16 General AmeriTrac's, I feel that a little stiffer shock is needed (especially in the front). Since I am going to remove the cap, as well as do some towing I feel that an adjustable shock on the rear would be good.

One note is the monroe reflex and the rancho rsx is the same shock. Tenneco makes them both. Internaly the same. Difference is the rsx have poly bushings and a silicone sleeve over the rod. I have the rsx. For me they are not stiff. If I had it to do over. I would save some money and get the the reflex. Usually $20 less per shock.

I have the Reflexes in my 03 and the sensatracks in my 04......

The 03 handles better and is slightly stiffer, more truck like...

The 04 does have a softer ride, BUT when you push the shocks, They go a certain point and then act in....

The Reflexes are more constant...

I've had the RSX shocks on my Trac for almost four years now. They've performed superbly. If I have this Trac long enough to have to replace the shocks again, I'll probably install the Monroe Reflex shocks. I'm curious to feel the difference in what's pretty much the same shock as the RSX.

I've been running the Bilsteins for 2 yrs. and the ride, control is great. I had the Edelbrock IAS shocks for a year before they wore out and leaked. I wouldn't get the Edelbrock they don't have the ride or control the Bilsteins do. I also have the Ride Master Suspension and larger Addco front and rear sway bars with new front and rear end links with urethane bushings. I put less than 10,000 miles a year on my ST.

Ride, handling is night and day better with Bilsteins and other mentioned upgrades.

Best guess the Bilsteins will last a long time and work like new after 50,000 miles. I use Bilsteins on my other vehicles and they've lasted close to 90,000 miles on my F-150.

What is "best" depends on what you want to do. I put Monroe Sensa Tracs on my old '05. If you pretty much do all on-road driving, that is fine. If you off-road or tow or load it heavy a lot then I'd get Monroe Reflexes.

Long story made short, originally I bought Pro Comp ES9000 shocks for my '05 but they arrived missing a number of small parts (a common complaint) and one front shock was defective right out of the box. After much torching and cussing I gave up, drove to Sears on three shocks, and had them put on a set of Sensa Tracs for $200 installed.
