In wiring up some glow pedals to the in-console cigarette lighter (cough "power outlet"), and managed to short the positive power wire I had just spliced in, and after some less than impressive yellow sparks, I realized that the outlet was dead, and that my glow pedals weren't going to be doing much for me in the near future :(

So, my question to everyone out there, is where is the fuse to the in-console power outlet?

Thanks,

--Kevin

In an '01 I think it is #17 (20A) in the fuse panel located on the left-hand side of the instrument panel (facing the driver's door). Check your owner's manual for more info.

Sadly I don't have an owner's manual, other than the sissy little one which was stashed away in the jack compartment; the problem of getting a used ride.

You mean I have to go through that whole field of fuses? I'll start witih #17 and go from there.

Thanks for the help.

If you go to the fleet.ford.com website, you can download a copy of your owners manual for free.

Well, Fuse 17 is supposed to control OBD II and the Cig Lighter. That fuse only controls the _actual_ cigarette lighter, not the power outlets. I managed to get an actual '02 manual, and none of the fuses listed mentioed power outlet....in fact, all of the fuses had multiple systems under them, and all the systems listed (that I have on my ride) were functional....so it's time to make a journey through every single fuse....

And since carmax didn't provide the "fuse removal tool", it's up to a pair of needle-nose pliers which barely fit in.

And so the epic quest to get back my power outlets continues.

Well, the fuse was #22: "I/P power ports".

Don't know how I missed that in the manual; it wasn't until I found the fuse and cross-checked the manual that I found my mistake.
