Just got the AVIC-Z1 installed w/rearview cam and bluetooth phone adapter. Its impressive- I especially like the rearview while driving- its more distracting than a DVD, though. Heres the camera install- well protected.[Broken External Image]:

very sweet install.... so small its not noticable by the police. we used to trim out the center of the orange and mount it there but i then had a guy who got hemed up by the police for improper display of tag. kinda bs but i saw the ticket and it was no good. i do know there is a company out there that has a piece that you can replace the cargo light and it has a built in camera. which is good for a differient angle the only down fall is if someone is hiding right up against your bumper he will get run slap over due to non-visability. good install though.

I like it. Saw that on the AVIC Site the other day, but did not put 2 and 2 together! Is that the Pioneer Camera?? I have thet one to install on my '07, when I find the time....

SWEET, I think Lil Red's gonna do the same thing! Now I really can't wait for my ST to arrive......I'm sitting here stareing at my AVIC-Z1 w/Bluetooth adaptor and rear view camera but nothing to install in in. Only another 6 weeks or so until my 07 arrives so I guess i'll just hurry up an wait......

That is sweet laski. Heheh, that's cool you can watch the rear while on the go. It would be too obvious on my white plates though and I'm sure to be ticketed here in CA. I recently saw in a catalog an aftermarket tailgate handle assembly with a camera recessed in it, but I think I would go for the conventional, sensor in the bumper type. However, all mods are on hold as my budget undergoes "way forward" refinement and less "bold moves" spending.

People ask me why I need a rearview camera for my vehicle. I tell them I like to see the faces of the little kids when I back over them. Kidding of course.... I like it because it will make it easier to back out of spots, and I can see what is going on behind me without twisting my neck out of whack.. I haven't really looked for a spot to put my camera yet, but I think it will go in the gap under the tailgate and above the bumper. VA is pretty anal about licence plates. My dad has been pulled over for having a frame around his plate (the top of it covered the top quarter of the word Virginia) and I have been pulled over for having a clear shield over my plate. I can only imagine what would happen if they saw that I drilled a hole in it...

A1, before you permanently mount it there, be sure to check to see if the tailgate will close and if the tailgate restricts the view. The lens is very wide-angle, so I ended up mounting mine to the hitch. It's perfect for backing up to a trailer!

Thanks for your comments- its the Pioneer camera- realized I needed it when I backed into my neighbor's Nissan Sentra because I did not see it at all. When I went to tell him, no one answered the door but I could hear loud Latin music in the backyard. I peeked over the fence and saw him and his wife in the hot tub doing a little Salsa of their own. I waited about an hour and knocked again- he came out in his bathrobe and said the door crease was nothing on such an old car and not to worry about it- he was in a very mellow mood.....

I would advise anyone buying this unit to also buy the "flasher" described on avic411.com- not so you can watch DVDs while driving, but so you can input NAV on the fly. We have the factory NAV in our Sienna, and its a pain to stop and input new destinations.

Nice install on the camera man, pretty sweet place to hide it.

lasik1, yea the not being able to use some functions on the nav is pretty gay. i understand the saftey aspects of blocking it, but what if a passenger want to use it to look something up. There should be a factory way for the passenger to use it.

P.S. thats pretty funny about your neighbor.

So where is it? In the "eye" on the letterhead? :p

Just kidding, lasik. Nice stealthy install.

I have a Pioneer camera, too. Here's where I put mine.

I have the AVIC-Z1 also, for about a month. I just installed the Bluetooth adapter today, pretty cool.

I also have the iPod adapter, not very happy with it, scrolling through songs is a big hassle. Maybe I'll get an adapter for it to go into the AUX. That way I can control it with the iPod itself.

The navigation is right on the money, the hard drive is real cool, I put about 50 cd's on there already.
