I am a service writer at CarMax and I told our tranny guy every once in awhile more so first thing in the morning I get the 2-3 flare. He said they make a shift improvement kit so I said put it in, I was doing it more for the firmer shifts because the 2-3 flare was so intermittent. So he drops the pan then he opens the valve body and bam huge chunk of metal falls out and the valve body gasket is blown out couldn't believe it. Now the trac is in the shop getting the tranny rebuilt. When he told me that I was like unbelievable you drive it and would have never thought it had this problem.

since your ST is an 01, I bet you only needed the updated valve body and gasket kit, Not a complete rebuild...

well i have a warranty so my deductible is 25 bucks so he is going to replace everything to make it all brand new. Also install any high performance part for the trans that may be available.
