Depends on the 12.. required volume ranges between .3 and 2.5 (generally speaking) and you are only going to be able to get 1.5 (best guess) if you fiberglass all wood construction will be even less.

Then there is mounting depth.. there isn't a lot, have you test fit it under there to make sure you have about 3 extra inches? 1.5 to account for 3/4 * 2 for the top and bottom and 1.5 to account for speaker excursion.

I only remember one member ever having a 12 under there and it stuck out past the seat bottoms by about 1 1/2". Unfortunately I don't remember who it was because I found it when I was researching 5 years ago when I bought the truck.

Look at my pic of my shallow mount 10" Rockford Fosgate PS3 sub & box "behind" my back seat. I had the box built at a radio shop. For one 10" sub it rocks!!! My amp is mounted under the passenger side of the back seat.

I had a 10 in. shallow mount setup as well. For most people they'd be tickled pink with the results. I wanted more so built a 1.75 cu. ft. box with a slanted top surface with a front-facing port pointed right at my back at the driver's seat loaded with a conventional driver.

Actually tomorrow I'll be grafting into that same box a better driver... an Alpine Type-R 12"

Today I grafted a second baffle on top of the old one. Had to... the mounting hole of previous was just a hair too big to be safe for mounting the Alpine.

If you can spare it... making a box to reside right behind the drivers seat gives you the room to engineer a box to kick some serious bootay! And I simply hold it in place with the seat-belt!

I guarantee you with the right song I have plenty of bass and it hits pretty hard.. more than I need. I'm not planning on entering any bass competitions..lol. I like it being behind the back seat and it doesn't take up any seating, but to each his own. Post pics when your done!

That is a 12" Pioneer flat sub in a sealed box under the right portion of the back seat. It doesnt stick out any and with the incline of the seat, most people dont even notice it's there. The only downfall is that you cannot completely fold down the right half of the seat, it stops about halfway down the normal length of travel.

Personally, I think the sound of a 12 is just a little better than that of a 10, but thats just my opinion.

10 or 12 you won't be able to fold down the seat. I think a 10 is more than enough for the ST given the space.

I guarantee my 10 behind the seat hits harder and sounds better than that Pioneer 12 under the seat.. just sayin!!! :supercool:

Actually the box extends farther out towards the middle, so the airspace is more than enough for what that SPECIFIC flatsub needs.

As far as sound quality, I wont list everything in my truck, but I will say it took me months of research to match a sub with the component systems, amps, and head unit. I had "hard" hitting subs in my last car but I wanted quality over quantity this time. GENERALLY speaking, a 12 will go lower than a 10 will if powered properly. I have been in several trucks with one or two tens and still really didnt like the sound, too firm in my opinion and lack of support from the speakers.

To each his/her own.

Conrad,

I do understand that and know what you mean. I DO like a good quality sound over just bass anyday!

If you take out the rear kick-panel plastic, the black plastic divider screwed into the floor right there... and the spring-loaded flaps which cover the gap when the seats are folded down... you can (and I did) build a righteous shallow-mount ported enclosure. I don't think you could fit a 12. You can make one for a 10 though... but the dimensions have to be just right.
