Hi gang - just a quick question as i install my new door speakers.

should i just cut off the factory plug and solder the wires onto the new speakers - i got the wiring diagram:

Left Rear Speaker (+) Sm. Lt. Grey Lt. Blue

Left Rear Speaker (-) Sm. Tan Yellow

Left Front Speaker (+) Sm. Orange Lt. Green

Left Front Speaker (-) Sm. Lt. Blue White

Right Rear Speaker (+) Sm. Orange Red

Right Rear Speaker (-) Sm. Grey Pink

Right Front Speaker (+) Sm. White Lt. Green

Right Front Speaker (-) Sm. Teal Orange

Or should i take the plastic plug off the factory speakers and solder it onto the new speaker?

Or do i have to buy a new speaker plug for all 4 doors?

never installed speakers before so thought i'd ask before i get too far. i'd prefer to cut off the factor ford plugs, and just solder on the new connections without having to buy plugs.

Any advise would be awesome,

thanks in advance as always guys!

Have you removed the panels and the old speakers to look at them? And what exactly are you doing? Just replacing the old speakers, or are you adding an amp to your truck? I ask because there's only two wires going to each speaker, the wires you are describing are the ones that go into the back of the radio.

I think solder the wires to the speaker would be trouble free connection. Just make sure the wire to the coil doesnt turn loose. Also use a low temp solder iron..

Craig, i'm just swapping out the factory speakers. the door panels are off, the old speaker is out. the new speaker should bolt right in - just need to know how to connect it to the new speaker.

Fast Eddie - i can do that, no problem. so i just cut the factory plug off and then match up the wires and solder?

do i have the positive negative correct, or am i missing anything from the list of wires i gave up above?

Are the connectors the same size from the stock speakers to the new ones? Or are they different sizes? The female end of the wire should just slip on to the male connector on the back of the speaker.

To me, soldering could pose a problem, because if you need to take the speakers out for whatever reason, that is just more work for you. That, and if you're concerned about the connection staying tight, everything will be fine, the connectors slip on, but they stay on tightly.

You can usually buy and adapter that will plug into the factory plug, then either solder its leads to the speaker or use crimp on terminals. The nice thing about these is the speaker will then just unplug, and if you need to go back to stock the plug is still there. Check Circuit City or Best Buy, they usually have them in stock.

Just go buy a set of speaker harness adapters. Best-Buy / Circuit city normally have them in stock in the installation department for ~$20. The adapters are ~6" long and plug into the factory plug then connect to the speaker. Done deal...

Much better than "hacking" the OEM wires in my opinion.
