I have the current speakers in my front doors - Clarion SRC6816 and these are the specs:

Top Mount Depth: 2.28 Inches

Bottom Mount Depth: 2.66 Inches

RMS Power Range : 40 Watts

Peak Power Handling: 170 Watts

Impedance: 4 Ohm

Frequency response: 75-20000 Hz

My deck is a Clarion MAX675VD with a 50 W ¡¿ 4 Built-in MOS-FET Amplifier and 19W ¡¿ 4 RMS [4§Ù@14.4V ¡Â1% THD+N] S/N 70dB (Ref:1W into 4§Ù)

I have a 2 channel amp that will do 2x75 into 4 ohms. But for a cost of about $150, is it worth installing the amp to have these amplified, or should i wait to upgrade the front speakers and then amplify those?

because i will have to pay someone to install it an also buy the wires....

here is a schematic i have of what i'm going to do. don't know how to do the speakers. can you guys help?

What exactly are you trying to achieve? If you really want more "ump", I suggest you invest in a sub woofer. The 5x7/6x8 speakers in our Tracs are only capable of producing so much volume without distorting. Better to let a sub do the low end work. Just my opinion.

1. What do you want from the system?

Are you just looking to make noise and disturb the neighbors or do you want something you can actually hear and enjoy.

If you just want LOUD, leave things the way they are as the subs will give you what you want though you may want to follow #2 below.

If you want sound quality:

2. Go with a lower gauge wire to both amps. Use 4awg all around. Including the grounds.

3. If you can afford the the $150 and have the equipment, do it. You won't regret it, it will give you room to adjust your settings and get better sound quality.

As for the head unit putting out that much power, it may but it's not clean at higher volumes, yet another reason to use the amp.

Also, what type of amp(s) are you using? That will help.

I'm an installer. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with those. Keep them powered off of the headunit. If you get seroius about upgrading your music then I suggest investing in a nice set of component speakers (midrange, tweeter, crossover, combo) with an rms wattage of at least 75watts or so. Then a nice 4 channel amplifier with a decent amount of true rms power consistent with or above the speakers rating.

if you have the amp i would do it man, but i wouldnt pay someone to install it. its not dificult especially if you already have one amp wired.

I agree with Brandon64.

Plus, why put an amp to speakers that are only rated 40watts RMS. I would make the upgrade to 4 new door speakers that have a rated 75watts RMS and go with a 4 channel amp.

I went with Alpine 5x7 SPS-507 Type-S door speakers, which are rated at 75watts RMS and powered them with a Precision Power Inc PCX440 amp. Amp is only rated at 40watts but their are way underrated.
