Hey all, I have a Haynes manual that shows the position of the speed sensor on the transmission. I looked under there last night for curiosity sake and to see if I could see a loose wire or something...

But anyways, it shows it on the side of the part that the axle attaches too. Mine has the hole there but its not bored out, its not there.

The book says some have it on top of the differential, I dont see it there either! Where is this sucker? On top of my diff is just the brake like distributor thing.

Thanks.

On early production vehicles, the vehicle speed signal is generated by the rear anti-lock brake sensor and sent to the 4-wheel anti-lock brake system (4WABS) module. The 4WABS module sends the vehicle speed signal via circuit 679 (GY/BK) to the instrument cluster. On late production vehicles, the vehicle speed signal is generated by the output shaft sensor (OSS) and sent to the PCM. The PCM sends the vehicle speed signal via circuit 679 (GY/BK) to the instrument cluster.

If you don't have a transmission mounted sensor then you probably have the early production 2001

Early production is actually considered to be anything built before 07/24/2000 isn't it?

I'm pretty sure the OSS or ISS is located on your transmission casing. Here's what I pull up in AllData when I search your '01 ST.......

The st uses something on the tranny because I melted the rear ABS wires and the speedo still worked...
