My 2001 Sport Trac has the worn steering wheel like everybody else.

I bought the wrap but don't like the feel of it.

What does a new steering wheel cost?

I don't know the price of a replacement, but have you checked out Wheelskins? You may like that better and it's much more cost effective.

I think a new wheel from ford is a couple hundred bucks, then you have to install it or have them do it... then you can sit back with your new wheel and roll over another 30,000 miles til the wheel looks like crap again and realize that money was wasted... wheelskins is probably the closest to a factory fit and feel you'll find....or at least that's the closest I've been able to find online. I'm rolling with a new wheel covered under warranty but it's only a matter of time before it looks like crap too....

Wheel skins may be teh way to go. I don't know about an after market wheel. I want to retain my controls on the side.

After looking at the wheelskins, I think I may order one, but I have a question for you guys.... what is underneath the leather wrap on our steering wheel? Is it a normal wheel? can I cut the stitching on the existing leather and remove it, then lace on a new wheelskin? Maybe CoastieJoe has one avail in the salvage yard he can experiment with ???

Thanks Coastie, but what I was asking is if you knew what was under the leather on our wheels? It feels like a normal steering wheel. If I order a wheelskinz, I dont want to put it over the existing leather.....

Steering wheel is one of the first things I bought for my ST. Just replaced it last week (about 35,000 miles of wear) and the wheel was sticky, and looked in worse shape than when I bought the cover. So I replaced it with the exact same kind from Wally World for $7.88. Looks good as new.
