Steering Wheel

Has anyone had the problem where the steering wheel starting to peel? How can i prevent it from getting worse?

Yes on both of my ST's...and all I could do was put a steering wheel cover on it.

If it gets too bad. The cheapest way is to buy a steering wheel cover. Mine is starting to show signs of wear.

A good leather cleaner and then conditioner will help prevent this.....

There is a TSB on this as well. Mine was replaced for free as I was under the covered miles...

did the cover too. It put a Ford Racing (cover on the wheel with the wording facing the windshield. It takes a little getting used to the thickness and there is not a glare issue.

I was wondering if anyone has ever cut the messed up leather off of their steering wheel before adding a wheel cover. Seems like it would eliminate the thickness issue. ??? Just a thought.

Nope, just went with the cover on mine.Thought about cutting the old cover off but did not have the heart to do so.:wacko:

I put a "lace-on" leather cover on my other truck. A real leather one, not the vinyl kind. The leather is pretty thin, so it doesn't seem to add too much thickness. The laces are all on the inside just like the Trac's existing cover. It took some work to lace it up and pull the laces tight all the way around, but it was worth it. I laced it first, then worked my way around the wheel tightening as I went and pulling the slack out. Twice around the wheel and it looked pretty good. I found it at Pep Boys.
