sticky shifter?

Okay I've been having this issue with my truck since I got it. It seems that when I put the truck in park about 50% of the time the key won't turn all the way to allow me to remove it from the ignition. I have to then push the shift lever up so that the bar goes all the way past the P on the drive indicator and then the key will be released. Anyone having this issue? It almost feels like the person who owned the vehicle prior to me would rest their arm on the shift lever b\c it seems to be slightly loose.

I would take the covers off the steering column..see if there is a bolt or a nut on the shift lever to tighten..maybe that will get rid of the slack....
