I saw this earlier and thought I'd share. A couple of kids find and abandoned baby 20 years ago. She found them through Facebook to thank them.

Nelson,

I would LOVE to think you are not right, but I do have to admit, that in todays times,,,, I may just have to agree with you.

Amazing story!

Today's teens would have done the same thing but with different motives. They would have expected to get something out of it. Fame, money, Ipods...

Boy, what a bunch of pessimist cynics many of you are.

Every teen I know would have guarded that abandoned infant with their life and done the right thing.

I swear, listening to some of you guys on here and your bleak opinion of your fellow man makes me wonder if I am simply living in a better part of the country or something!

I am with you TJR! My daughter may drive me nuts, may seem unresponsible, and doesn't SEEM to care about things, but even at 13, I know she would have done the same thing as these kids did! I also know all the teens I know would have readily done the same thing, to the extent of making every attempt to find the birth mother, just to make sure she was ok and didn't need medical help.

Just because you see teens on the news, or hanging around your street corner, don't assume that all teens are like that. I play drums with a teen bass player, young lady who just turned 17, and she is very responsible, and willing to help whoever, and whenever she and her friends can.

I have more faith in our teens of today then I did when I was a teen back in the 80's.

So lets not let the news knock our teens out of the 'human race', and not assume anything until you know one!

You know what happens when you assume anyway, you make an ass out of u and me!

Maybe I should expand...

My kids and everyone of their friends that I can think of would have also helped, and for the right reason.

Like Nelson, I do believe that todays kids are generically across the board different then when I was a kid, for that matter, than my own kids...

I do want to believe that all would do the right thing, but I am not so naive to believe that.

I hope I am proven wrong for as long as I live. But, the truth is there are stories every day that have already proven that times have changed...

Coastie,

Do you know what the one thing that has changed?

I'll tell you want I think it is.

Kids today don't fear anything!

Somewhere along the way we got this notion that instilling fear into children is a bad thing. Fear of your parents, fear of what authority will do to you, fear of going to jail, fear of detention, fear of the paddle, fear of the back of the hand, and yes...fear of God...children don't FEAR these things anymore.

Somewhere along the way we took "fear" out of a our children's upbringing.

Without fear in these things I mentioned, there's not much that can be done to keep the smart, problem child in line. They KNOW they aren't going to get harmed. They KNOW there are no real consequences to their actions. Once they know this, and the worst seem to figure it out rather quickly, they start to not care, and then become a menace to society.

Still, even in this absence of fear (which many would call the presence of love) most children do turn out alright. Today, most children are just fine, and not that different than kids 20 or 30 years ago. However, in this society the bad seeds go unpunished, unchecked, and with our increased media presence these very few get all the publicity. We seem to be in an epedemic of evil teens...though I submit we are not. We are seeing a very visibile minority.

A local newscaster gave a sermon at our church. He stated that he wished his station covered more "feel good" stories; but that the reality is that the 6 o'clock news is really the chronicling of man's breaking of the 10 commandments....and that has been going on forever.

My ex teaches elementry, always told me. The students that were the worst problem kids. When their parents had to be brought in. The parents were worse, to deal with.

Of course, so many have disregarded the Bible's "Spare the rod, and spoil the child," or actually, have taken that the wrong way!

Never thought a feel-good story would turn out like this!

so true fast eddie,

it all starts at home ;)

imo, today the parents want to be the childs friend and be cool.

that doesn't work
