I was cleaning out our storage room the other day and found a 6.5" subwoofer that I use to have in my old Ranger. How would I go about hooking this thing up? It is not powered by a sub. Could I splice into one of the door speakers? or should I run a wire to my Pioneer DEH6800 head unit? If i was to splice into the door speakers, how would I go about doing that? Thanks for the help.

Your head unit does not have enough power to run a subwoofer even if it is only a 6.5". If you spliced it into the door speakers would would only get 11 watts to it (assuming your headunit does 25 watts per channel which is pretty typical)

You need a small amp to power it.

i would get at least 100w rms true power amp you can always turn it down somethign like the lightning audio amps from walmart would be good and cheap

Easiest thing to do it just buy an amp install kit it will come with everything you need. You should be able to find one on ebay for $20 it will have all the wires and connectors.
