Supreme Court really "F-ed" on this one...

I would stage a protest at the Baptist church, during their hours of services. The protesters should be as loud and as obnoxious as these people were to them. But I would not stop with one demonstration...I would persist with the demonstrations everytime the Baptist church held anykind of gathering or service until they appologized and admit they were wrong.

If the protesters are arrested or denied the right to protest, then take it to the supreme court since they have the same freedom of speach and the right to assemble as the people who protested at the soldier's funeral did.

TJR--Or, you could stage outside any/all Baptists churches, until they get fed up with it enough that they finally go do something about the Westboro Baptists abusing their good name... :)

I can't agree with the decision. Freedom of speech does not allow someone to yell, "Fire" in a crowded theater because it could cause injuries or death, and it should not allow this church to abuse people emotionally for the same reasons. This kind of act can easily escalate to violence.

Of course the courts have been making a lot of sick decisions lately, so I am not surprised. In the future, people will read about these days as the dark days of our nations history. Our government is becoming morally bankrupt.

I have a co-worker whose wife's brother-in-law was killed in Afghanistan earlier this week. The Patriot Guard Riders are dispatching a bunch of riders for the funeral. SSG Chauncy Mays and his partner were killed by a ****y-trapped IED that he was attempting to disarm. Both just arrived back at Dover today. I really hope that there is no interruption by these protesters because the little town where he's from won't stand for it. They are planning a hero's funeral for him.

Nelson,

The SCOTUS disagrees. They felt that this form of free speech posed no imminent threat of violence. For, if it had, it could have been deemed HATE SPEECH.

This was the right call, legally.

States should pass more laws for SCOTUS to upheld, then maybe these aholes can be silenced. Until then, SCOTUS works with the laws they have.

I hate these nutjobs from that so called church, an investigation should be done about where these people get their funding and declare them a political group and take away any tax exempt status they might hold.

Wait till father phelps has his funeral, may all the soldiers families "do unto others" and make it totally miserable for them too.

They get their money by suing for 'legal fees' from fighting the lawsuits. Since they are their own lawyers they basically keep the money.

They have the right. They are jerks. They are mean. They are looking for attention. I hope the efforts to peacefully disrupt them continues. I hope the press stops giving them any attention. (They won't because main stream press can associate them as 'christians' and try to put all Christians in a bad light). But if they stopped getting attention they would stop doing this.

If they come to my town I will join in the peaceful disruption of their attempts to shout their hate messages at the people attending the funeral.

Here's an example of the Patriot Guard Riders honoring a fallen Marine and shielding his grieving family from the Westboro whack-jobs.
