Hello -

2001 ST - Automatic

My temperature gauge is hitting the roof. The coolant and resovoir level are good. No leaks are apparent - some smell of anti freeze though. Per the gauge - the engine gets to operating temperature - fffaaassstt! Then it creeps up pretty quickly.

I'm thinking its the water pump ? I had this done about a year ago - not by a Ford dealer.

Any ideas on what could be causing this ?

What should this cost to replace if done at a Ford dealer if it is the water pump ?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks.

Does the ST actually run poorly with the higher temperatures? Then I'm with Stonemiser? If not, possibly a bad temperature sensor/sending unit to the gauge on the dash.

TRACket Paul also has a good point. If the thermostat has been replaced it could be a bad sensor. Is the coolant (hoses, ect.) real hot when the temp guage tops out?

:lol::lol::lol:

Stonemiser, sorry but the hoses probably going to be around 200 degrees F. at normal temps. Overheating temps are going to 240-250 F. when the gauge is at the topped out. I have some recent experience with it.:eek:

No I'm talking about what he says, "engine gets to operating temp fast". I'm wondering if the hoses are warm at this time. If not then it could be just the sensor. I guess I should have been alittle more specific.:D:lol:;)
