My wife got in a wreck with my first Sport Trac. She was going to church with her sister and gabbing all the way. She did not see that the cars in front of her had stopped at a traffic light and plowed into the back of a 4 year old Chevy Lumina. The Trac push the Lumina's rear end all the way up to the back window and pushed the car into the truck stopped in front of it.
6 people went to the hospital, fortunately nobody was seriously injured and all were treated and released. The Lumina was totaled and had to be towed away on a flatbed truck. The Sport Trac suffered $2800 damage but it was completely safe and drivable. It had a small ding in the hood, a big dent in the plastic bumper, and a slightly crinkled drivers front fender.
The headlight had been the mounting knocked off and was hanging by the wires.
I used some duct tape to hold the headlight in place and drove the truck for a week while the repair shop ordered the parts and scheduled the vehicle for repairs the following Monday. The vehicle drove perfectly and did not even appear to knock the wheels out of alignment.
Later that evening the police came over our house to get statements from my wife regarding the accident and one of the officers was absolutely amazed that the Sport Trac had done so much damage to the Lumina and yet only sustained what appeared to be only minor cosmetic damge. He said " I guess that's what they mean by Ford Tough" !
