Reference: Testing Synthetic Oil's using a bearing under load.

In some earlier posts it was asked which synthetic oil was preferred, who liked which and for what reasons etc. Some time back someone posted a link to a comparative test that was done by Streetcommodores.com which asked the question "Which Oil Is Right For You?"

For those interested in this test.....here is the link..... http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf

This test convinced me to switch to Royal Purple from the other synthetic oil I was using.

When using Royal Purple, which grade is used to replace 10w/20 which is spec'd for my '07?

Also, what filter should be used when using RP?

After seeing that test, think I'll switch to RP on my next oil change.

10W20 is NOT specified for your truck. 5W20 is.

I've been running Royal Purple XPR 5W20 since the day I adopted my truck.

It isn't bad by any means. I use this:

They're around $12 at most parts stores. Also, they have a 1" nut welded on the end, which makes changing the filter on the V8 much easier.

Kewl......I noticed that nut on the end and was wondering what it was for....price doesn't look bad either.

The best filters are generally considered to be K&N and Mobil 1. Both have synthetic media for uniform porosity and both are made by a company called Champion Labs (this is not the spark plug people). You can give them what I call the "garage door test". Throw a standard filter at your garage door and it will bounce off. Throw a K&N or Mobil 1 filter at the door and it will go through it.

The best filter for the money is Motorcraft.

I generally use Motorcraft.

The Wix, NAPA Gold, and Purolator PureONE cost a little more than Motorcraft but are also very good.

I spend some time at www. BobIsTheOilGuy.com.

Bill, it's a stock image I pulled from some random website. It's not the correct part number for the application.

Motorcraft are great filters for the $$. From what I have read and experienced, any filter made by Champion STP, Bosch and Mobil 1 are very good filters..........kinda like good, better best with Mobil 1 being best. IMO Fram filters are garbage except for the HP line. /bRAD
