I’m getting ready to put in some laminated wood flooring and was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I got the glue-less kind w/ the backing attached. I’ve done a dry run.....looks pretty easy and I figured out I need to stagger them so the seams don’t jump out at you. Any advice would be helpful.

I have put in a lot of laminate flooring. The glueless is really easy to put in. Once you figure out which direction you are runing (usually parallel to large walls with windows), you mainly need to make sure the first run/course is straight as possible and parallel to the wall(s). After that, just keep working down, carrying the leftovers to the end of the next row so the seams don't meet. Beyond that, they have made it as easy as possible. The old glue kind was a major pain in the butt, but I did my wife's 800 square foot craft room is about two hours.

One tip is to never force two pieces together that don't want to snap as it will chip the piece. A second tip would to never tap on a piece directly - use a scrap piece or the plastic blocks that are available.

I have done it. Once you get the handle on the correct angle to put the pieces together, they snap in place and it becomes much easier. Just get youself square and check to make sure you are still square after every couple of rows.

You also need a high tooth blade to cut the pieces.

I did a small kitchen and dining room in about 8 hours.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the quick responds .....I bought a install kit that came w/ spacers - a wood block made for tapping and a installation bar (a bent bar that look allot like a crowbar). I have watched the CD and read the instructions but nowhere do they tell where this tool would come into play .....Any idea how it is used?

when are you going to start and if you run into problems let me know and i can try to swing by and lend some advice .i have put down apx.2000sqf.

Thanks Y'all !!

I couldn't figure out what that was for ..LOL.

bpoche

I waiting on some molding I ordered and there are some bad spots on the real wood floor that need to be repaired but I'm looking at starting to lay the new floor on 2/08. I will differently keep you in mind ....thanks

I did the dining room and adjoining kitchen in my last house.

The instructions for the flooring I bought said to bring it inside the house 24 hours prior to installation. Also, like eledhel said, don't force the pieces together. There's a good chance that one of the pieces is warped. I took those warped pieces, turned them upside-down, and put them at the bottom of my stack of flooring. By the time I worked my way down to them, I was able to use those pieces.

Oh, yeah, like I tell my wife, every new project requires a new power tool. I got a new mitre saw to do this one. :D
