I found this site a couple of months ago and just want to say I really appreciate the company the past couple of months (currently in Mosul, Iraq). The day after tomorrow we have our transfer of authority to the new unit that is taking over from us. I am buying an ST when I get home and have learned so much from reading all the posts. The past couple of months I couldn’t wait to get in and hit a computer to read what you guys posted. There are some true ‘ST Prophets’ out there; Todd Z, CoastieJoe, WFoy and many others. Whenever I asked a question everyone was very helpful and polite. Hat’s off to you guys. We’ll bounce down to Kuwait and hopefully make it home for Christmas. Much appreciated for everything.:)

Yup, it's nice to have other owners to fall back on. I've always valued reading multiple opinions, comments, and suggestions on any and all topics and questions. The 'ST Prophets' you mentioned above are but a few that I also hold in high esteem around here.

But anyway, thanks for serving. Congrats on ur decision to get a Sport Trac. You know that the 07 is not too far away either...

Keep your head down...

Glad to hear your headed back to the states..

I have celebrated Christmas in Kuwait a few years back. Trust me when I say it just isn't the same.... LOL

I spent Christmas '87 in Basic Training, and others in Turkey, Portugal and Korea, so I know what it is like to be away. I hope you make it home in time to spend time with your family for Christmas.

For the others who will not make it, I pass on this little Christmas Poem:

‘Twas the night before Christmas

He lived all alone

in a one bedroom house made of

plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney

with presents to give,

and to see just who

in this home did live.

I looked all about,

a strange sight I did see,

no tinsel, no presents,

not even a tree.

No stocking by mantle,

just boots filled with sand,

on the wall hung pictures

of far distant lands.

With medals and badges,

awards of all kinds,

a sober thought

came through my mind.

For this house was different,

it was dark and dreary,

I found the home of a soldier,

once I could see clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping,

silent, alone,

curled up on the floor

in this one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle,

the room is such disorder,

not how I pictured

a United States soldier.

Was this the hero

of whom I'd just read?

Curled up on a poncho,

the floor for a bed?

I realized the families

that I saw this night,

owed their lives to these soldiers

who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world,

the children would play,

and grown-ups would celebrate

a bright Christmas day.

They all enjoyed freedom

each month of the year,

because of the soldiers,

like the one lying here.

I couldn't help wonder

how many lay alone,

on a cold Christmas eve

in a land far from home.

The very thought

brought a tear to my eye,

I dropped to my knees

and started to cry.

The soldier awakened

and I heard a rough voice,

"Santa don't cry,

this life is my choice;

I fight for freedom,

I don't ask for more,

My life is my God,

my country, my Corps."

The soldier rolled over

and drifted to sleep,

I couldn't control it

I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours,

so silent and still

and we both shivered

from the cold night's chill.

I didn't want to leave

on that cold, dark night,

this guardian of honor

so willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over,

with a voice soft and pure,

whispered, "Carry on Santa,

It's Christmas day, all is secure."

One look at my watch,

and I knew he was right.

"Merry Christmas my friend,

and to all a good night."

You may thank a soldier recovering from injuries at Landstuhl Army Medical Center, Germany by visiting the VFW website, which I have linked below.

Nelson, I did boot camp in 82. December in fact in Frigid New Jersey. I didn't realize I was as old as I am.. LOL

I did my tour in Landstuhl. Got nailed in Desert Storm. Went there with nothing, just the clothes on my back. Red Cross came to the hospital and gave me a $500 grant. I went and bought tooth paste and things like that as well as one change of clothes. Took 20 dollars and gambled with it. Won $300.00. Donated it back to the Red Cross as they would not let me give back the money. But they did accept it as a donation.

I thought it was very nice of them.

Ssshhhh. Don't call Todd Z a prophet. He has a big enough head already. :D:D

Stay safe over there. My nephew is coming to visit us over the x-mas holidays. He's in Army Special Forces, had 2 tours in Iraq (plus a few more unofficial ones). Now he's in DC taking special training to be an attache to an ambassador. Should be a lot safer.

Thank you, it's great to see fellow service members here! I hope you do make it back for Christmas!

So you're in Mosul? I was at Ali base (LSA Adder to the Army) over the summer.

Kevin, You are an old fart :) We were in basic at the same time, but I was in sunny Orlando FL....

Remember when 40 was OLD? Heck, folks in their 50's aren't looking so old now ;)

One advantage I see in getting older (43 for me) is that now even the 50 year old women are looking beautiful. I never paid any attention when I was in my 20s. By the time I am in my 80s, all people will be beautiful, which is the way it should be anyway. :D
