As many of us have found out, the Nylon thermostat housing is garbage.

just had to replace mine due to weld failure seeping

Some of us have found links to Simmons Auto Sportz cast aluminum housing.

The problem I had with SA housing is the images of poor or lack of finishing of hose mounting points.. Those of us who have worked with cast iron housings in the 60's and 70's are aware of the potential of leakage of new hoses and difficulty removing old baked on hoses due to the rough cast finish..

FoMoCo produces a more refined machined cast aluminum housing and output neck found at

for my 2008 Sport Trac for essentially the same price as SA housing..

Good find, thanks for the heads up. :supercool:

Searching Motorcraft RT-1216 and coming up empty. :banghead:

Im comming up empty also. I wonder if simmons sold his patent to. This independent parts house.

Also I see that the connection for the small hose is not cast. It appears to be a pressed in steel nipple. That will rust rott in time.

That could be the 5% difference on overiding an existing paten.

Some how I got crossed up and posted 2008 Explorer part #

BTW these are Ford parts counter persons "Call Numbers" and don't include complete casting Prefix Code +part number that one would often search online..

For more information on decoding Ford part numbers see:

"https://classicmustang.com/decoding-part-numbers/#prefix_decoding" or

You can do a search "decoding ford part numbers" or "decoding new ford part numbers" if you wish to see Prefix Codes for 2000 and newer..

Now for the correct link to Sports Trac "4.0L V6 12V Single Over Head Cam EFI ; Aluminum Housing, Complete Kit"

"http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/PartDetail.aspx?n=ugOZFtQ9rQtdz%2bYKgHqMmA%3d%3d&id=434150743&m=2&search=true&year=2008&make=Ford&model=Explorer%20Sport%20Trac"

problem I had was top of nylon lower housing weld failed at one of the outlet neck inserts as well as square cut seal at head was showing seepage..

I doubt the 2" pressed in steel nipple would create any more corrosion than the 3' steel heater tube it is connected to..

Good find. Still very limited info on the RT-1220 housing. Appears it will also work for 2004-05 ST's that have only one sensor. Keep us posted if you go with the RT-1220. :supercool:

Well, mine started leaking as well. Seems to be the o-ring on the bottom. Of course, due to bolt corrosion, I ended up destroying the whole thing just to get it out. They really didn't make this thing easy. Ordered off Ebay as well as it even comes with the long bolts I now need.
Of course, this happened on my last day working and now becomes my first retirement project.

That sucks.... Hope you get it fixed.

ugh, they are out of stock. I'm on my 3rd Ford plastic one and the last has been in about a year so I expect failure soon. Just want to have the metal on standby.

Who is ???

There are now 3 Companies selling them...... IF you needed one ASAP I have a 1 sensor one here ( my in stock just incase) brand new I could sell.

Thanks Todd- The ebay source linked above is out of them. I don't need one right now, just wanted to have it on standby because it will fail when I need the truck for a road trip. It pretty much just sits now only used on weekends for dump or Lowes runs.

Todd,
I do have a 2004 ST now, which was the vehicle that i was wanting the METAL thermostat housing for BUT i also have just purchased a 2010 Adrenaline ( BLUE, just like yours ) So, i may be interested in your Gen 2 housing anyway....this thread has made me aware of how weak ALL of these housings are and that its a matter of time b4 needing one. I do believe that my 04 may be leaking and will probably buy the cheaper plastic version to sell the car.
I have researched and the Simmons metal TH for the 04 ST is model # SA 8 ...a single-sensor housing. ( i think)
What model is yours and what is cost ?
Since i have your att. now....what parts do you have for the 2010 ? I may be interested in many parts you may have.
Thanks again,
