The old 2001 Job 2 has once again blown the thermostat housing seam. We got the truck in 2003 and it was leaking when we bought it. Ford replaced it under warranty. When the cam cassettes went in 2011 it was leaking yet again. I bought another new Ford plastic craptastic thermostat housing. Two weeks ago the wife alerted me that she could smell the sweet nectar of coolant when she was stopped. Sure enough, puddles on the driveway.
This time I went with the Simmons Auto Sports aluminum housing and water outlet. The parts came north of the border in only 5 days or so from Amazon. The kit contained the thermostat housing and water outlet neck as well as thermostat o-ring and back up gasket, new seals for the temperature sensors and the flat base o-ring seal. Took all of 90 minutes to replace and it looks way better than factory, no seam to leak (as well as I trust aluminum way more than plastic.)
Coolant every where. I don't remember putting silicone sealant on the last install, didn't leak there anyway, cracked at the seam again. The new one went on with just a bit of O-ring grease.
A couple of side by sides
Lower installed
Thermostat installed
