Hey all -

Anyone have more luck with accessories from one or the other? Looks like Thule makes a lot cooler stuff.

Also, anyone ever try the Thule pickup truck rack below (see link) on the new generation 07/08 ST's?

Thanks !

I took the external tiedowns off of my bed and attached a set of Thule rain gutter plates so I could use a roof rack over the bed. It works great, and with my hitch rack I can carry 5 bikes, and leave the bed open for the cooler, grill, etc.

Both companies have excellent products. I went with the Yakima because I like the look of the round bars better but deciding on who to go with is just a personal preference.

I modifies the Thule rack to clamp onto the Bed Cleats.

Easy on and off. and I dont have to mess with removing the cleats.

Click on my wrench to see the whole project.

Have any of you been able to use the bike racks that allow you to keep the front wheel on? I have the Yakima towers modified to fit on the tiedowns in the same manner as the Thules shown in the photos, and I have Yakima bars. I know it would hang over the end of the bed, but I was wondering if any of the bike racks with the ability to carry a bike with the front wheel still on would work.

I never tried to use the full bike mount. only the fork mount.

I dont think there would be enough room for the weel to fit, if you use the front and rear cleats.

If you use the middle and rear cleats. it would fit.. but I dont know how stable the bike would be. and it would stick out past the bed of the ST more then I think would be safe.

but is up to you if you want to try that.
