I sit in our break room at work and have never seen such lonely people. Ten to twenty people in a single room at a time and often not a word spoken. Phones clicking away or playing videos or music. Interaction comes when someone wants to show someone something on their phone. I usually drive home on lunch to see my dogs; they're much more sociable.

I got off Facebook soon after it became fully open to the public. I enjoyed it when it was only open to select colleges and I could be informed of what was going on around town. I'm pretty technologically backward for my age group. There's a huge divide between me and my 21 year old sister socially; as in she and her friends have no social skills, let alone work skills. For example, her engagement party tonight was by facebook invite. That would have never flown in the south before but I guess it's common now. My invite had to come by an archaic phone call because I don't have an account.

This site is about as close to social media as I get. Never signed on to twitter or any of the other host of social media I couldn't even name. They're all a measure of vanity in my opinion.

My wife gets irritated because I don't always know where my cell phone is and it is often completely dead.

The only social site I belong to is Facebook. The main use of it for me is to hear from the relatives from around the country and acquire any pictures they post.

Took the words right out of my mouth !

If I am with someone who is constantly checking their cell phone every 30 seconds, I just get up and walk out!

Rich,

I recently went out to eat with my brothers' family. My 16yr old nefhew sitting next to me, was anti -social. Stayed on his phone. Finaly I took it and placed it on his moms' side of the table. She comments, we cant seem to stop him. It is all he does'. I asked her if she ever thought about doing what I did. There was complete silence. :bwahaha:

My walking out when people are preoccupied with their cell phones deals primarily with dates. I think it is very rude to keep looking at your cell phone every few minutes while on a date.. Thankfully, I have only had to walk out on a date one time because they were addicted to their cell phones.

Unfortunately my oldest daughter is like that. Every time she comes to my house and we are discussing something, she has to look up that subject on Google or whatever?? Very irritating, but while you can pick your dates, you can't pick your family..:banghead:

My best friend's wife is like that too. You cannot be around her without her posting it on Facebook, or constantly Texting some one???

Why do people think that the mundane, everyday things in their life are so interesting that they mus share them with the world.
