Seeing how some here often debate the longevity/durability/reliability of american vs japanese this seemed to fall into those debates. On Top Gear they put a 80's toyo pick-up through hell to see how much in could endure. They weren't permitted to change any of the "working' parts and could only use basic tools. If things were as they were presented.... well see for yourself:

I love Top Gear...they're so brutally honest...they've got no problem knocking down a Ferrari for "floppy steering wheel shifter paddles"...gotta love it.

The video in question is a good one, amazing that the little truck survived. I'm not sure a modern Toyota, or any other vehicle, would pass the same test.

This is just more evidence that the Japanese build junk.

When the truck fell 20 stories, the frame cracked in half.

When it was submerged for hours in the water, it took 40 minutes to get it running again with nothing more than WD40.

When he set it on fire did the interior not retain a smokey, sooty smell?

Did you see how the body panels bent when hit with a 2000lb wrecking ball?

Who needs such an unreliable vehicle?

Glen, if your cable carrier carries BBC 2, you shoudl be able to pick up the unmolested British version. The American version that was shown here was cut down to fit within our "hour", which is only something like 47 mins, where as over there, an hour TV show is a true hour. One of the perks of a government run TV station.
