The Sport Trac I just got has the tow package from what I am told. It has 4.1 gears an a class 3 hitch. Is that the only thing that makes the tow package different? Also, is the class 3 hitch weight distrabution hitch or is that something you have to add on? How much can I tow the way it is right now?

A tow package usually consists of a transmissmission cooler and a 4 prong wire harness, the class 3 hitch is something you have to add on. If you tow with the bumper don't haul no more than 3500lbs

If your trac is as it says in your profile, there is no tow package per se, all gen 1 tracs were outfitted the same... the XLT's w/ 4wd and 255 tires got the 4.10's, which are good for towing, I wish mine had them. If you're going to tow something really heavy for long distances, upgrade the tranny cooler to something larger, and changeout the fluid. The bumper hitchshoun't e used for anything more than a utility trailer or jet skis... For electric brakes, you'll have to wire in your own, and use the flat-4 already in place in the rear... As Rod said, so a search for towing topic, and you'll find gobs of info!! Let's see pics!!:supercool:
