The 2001 does not come Pre wired, you will need to install the controller and run the wires..

Im new to towing as well...im just gonna get a untility trailer to haul a four wheeler what else i need besides a hitch?

That total setup will probably weigh in at less than 2500lbs so you will be okay with the 4 pin flat trailer wiring connection which powers the trailer lights (left, right, park lights and brake). You will not need trailer brakes or a brake controller with your intended setup.

John, to elaborate on what Todd said you will need to run a 12V+ power wire and a brake controlled wire from the brake controler to the back of the truck. For more info check out my library, I have my brake controller install instructions posted. All brake controllers require the same connections no matter what brand you decide to go with.

I dont remember the price but they had all those same conversions available at our local checker auto parts here. Might want to check as you may save some time and money over shipping.

those integrated connectors work great... they are sealed so the slop won't get in and booger it up... see my library for a pic of an installation. I ran a 12/3 extension cord from the engine compartment to the rear via the frame rail for the +12v, Brake signal, and battery ground. I tapped in to a reverse light behind the tail light for the backup light signal. be sure to fuse all feeds to protect the wire. i used 2-20 amp fused under the hood, as well as a 15a circuit breaker for the brakes. 27' and MT is is 4080 lbs, I am pushing the 5300# tow limit with it loaded... ST pulls it good enough for me... Did the 8% 5 mile grade out of Sedona Arizona with it doing 50 mph uphill...
