Can we put Mercon 5 in the transfer case, I have a couple of litres left over and might as well use it up there.

Not sure on a Gen I, Gen II's use ATF. Whatever the owners manual sez.

The original manuals encourage use of Mercon ATF, but I found out after a recent trip to the dealership that they're encouraging the use of a specific fluid for transfer cases.

Thanks for replies, says on the Ford site, Mercon V not recomended for transfer case.

I'm glad I asked before I changed it!

I use Mobil 1 ATF in mine, it is rated for both Mercon and Mercon V. Change it every 30K.
