I have an 02 Sporttrac, auto, and about two days ago I could not get it into park and I noticed a burning rubber smell. I was finally able to force it into park and its been shifting fine ever since, but I still get that smell when ever I drive. The smell seems to be coming from under the truck and not inside the engine. Any recommendations, or advice? Has anyone else had this problem.

Have you looked to see if anything got lodged around the exhaust. I had a plastic bag on the exhaust of my mustang one time, stank badly.

Make sure your parking brake is releasing. Make sure non of your brakes are hanging up.

Could be a plastic bag stuck on the shifter or exhaust....

Or the shift cable came loose and is rubbing something..
