I guess the Florida Keys are being evacuated because of Tropical Storm Rita. She might become a Hurricane later today. There are some members here that live in the area. All I can say is be safe and hope your damage is minimal, if any at all.

Tom

Yeah she's on her way. I hope we don't lose power and the roads get all trashed again like when Katrina passed through. I'm glad I haven't fixed the old damage yet. Looks like they couldn't give us a month to recover. At least this one shouldn't effect N.O., thank god.

at 5:30 they projected louisiana to texas we can't take another one right now.But if it comes here we will make due.

Maybe Jeb Bush should start running Louisiana. They have been pummeled by at least a half dozen hurricanes in less than 12 months, and they are still humming along without any major problems. I am incredibly impressed with Florida's endurance. What is more remarkable is that they still do not have any personal income tax. I know Louisiana took a major hit, but they can still learn a lot from Florida.

the big difference is Florida water comes up and goes down real fast new Orleans it comes in floods and it has to be pumped out the next thing is most places are not as corrupt as new Orleans so money goes where it is suppose to go:lol:

The storm as canceled MANY flights for the Florida area all ready, (including mine). My flights for the next three days are in and out of St. Louis as a result of the storm plus the fact that commercial traffic will be there for the first time at 7A.M.

Three things made South Florida habitable and pleasant to live in.

They are:

1. DDT.

2. water management canals, many many canals, thank you Army Corps of Engs.

3. Air conditioning.

If the track map that Nelson posted is true. Iam in line to get the worst side of it. I live 50mile drive from Galveston, and 4miles form the houston ship channel.

Probably be heading 80miles norheast, to my parents.

A few years back with tropical storm Allison. The flood water was 1" below my front door threshhold, when the rain stoped.

If it hits Texas as a Catagory 4, we, as a nation, are going to be in a world of hurt.

$3.00/gallon of Gas is going to be cheap, REAL cheap.

Tom

Winds are up to 100 mph with gusts to 130 mph...and growing. Forecast is winds nearing 140 mph (Cat 4) within 24 hours. :(

Nelson: by the time the storm hits Oklahoma, the winds it generates will be no worse than a spring day in Okla... but the torrential rains could be the main problem.

Darin -- Yes, I understand. I'm mainly keeping track of this, because my fiancee's daughter and family live in Houston. They will be evacuating up to OKC in the next day or two. My fiancee is out of town on business travel, so I'll have to host them (or at least let them into her house).

We had gust here up to 160MPH when Jeanne hit here in my area (made landfall 5 miles from my house)... the local agricultural studies facility handed my dad a graph that showed we had between 160-170 gust in our area (the facility is about 1 mile from home).

Hurricanes are scary, but FL is still fun! :)

Nelson,

Here's wishing your fiancee's family safety.

Well, the speculators are at it again and gas increased on the futures market.

That didn't take long, did it?

:)

Will the President call for taxpayer funded rebuild of the Texas coast after this hits? I sure hope my great-grandchildren can afford all this generosity!

Rocco,

The President says he will not raise Tax's to rebuild the Hurricane Damage.

While that sounds so nice to hear that my Tax's will not be raised to rebuild the damaged area's, what is going to be droped so my tax's wont be raised? Military funding? Space Exploration? Schoold Funding? Highway funding?

Does that also mean that just because the President isn't going to raise tax's directly, the money has to come from somewhere. If it is taken away from state funding, our tax's will be raised indirectly.
