I have seen several similar videos of double decker buses being decapitated in the same manner...going under a low overpass...:bwahaha:

I recently retired from my job at a highway construction/paving company and we had a guy drive under a low overpass with large excavator and damaged the overpass. Part of the problem was that the Texas DOT built the bridge too low over the Interstate, and part of the fault was our driver who ignored the warning signs to exit the interstate due to height clearance issues.

In this case, the excavator was loaded onto the wrong trailer which was not as low as the driver thougt it was. That was the drivers responsibility, and the driver was fired for his negligence, and the company had to pay to repair the damaged overpass while still under construction. The Texas DOT would not accept responsibility for approving the overpass to be built too low and not in compliance with State DOT regulations. They claimed that they planned to lower the Interstate highway under the overpass to meet height clearance requirements??? Sounds like someone at DOT screwed up but would never admit to their mistake.

I almost did one at one time driving a ~15' tall straight truck in a busy urban area. Never even thought about the 12' clearance ahead sign until I was right in front of the bridge. The truck was empty, and its brakes did the job! Luckily traffic was minimal, and I was able to turn around and get out of there easily. I had to stop and catch my breath and wipe out my pants, though.

Gavin, did you mean a 13'6" tall box truck? That's Federal DOT max regulated height, anything over is overheight. Bob, I wasn't getting upset, I laugh my ass off when I see Big Trucks get stuck or chop their tops. It does however piss me off that companies and DOT would allow these wannabe truckers behind the wheel of such a big truck. I'm all about safety behind the wheel, especially in a Big Truck, people's lives are at stake, these things aren't sports cars but I see drivers doing unspeakable things in these vehicles. By far the worst drivers I've witnessed over the years are tri-axle drivers and roll-offs. No respect for other drivers safety or their own. I grew up in the trucking industry with three step-dads that were truckers so I have great respect for "Real Professional Truck Drivers". :driving::supercool:

Jerry, you are probably right. It was a Penske truck and the sticker said it needed 15" clearance. I do know it was taller than the overpass I almost went under.
