I nearly fell over when I read the proposed loophole in this bill...

You can't have your cake and eat it too... (unless, apparently, you hire an illegal to cook you another one.)

Thank goodness. I was getting worried that I wouldn't be able to get my lawn mowed. :cheeky:

What the...?!!

This bill is useless, it does nothing! "Illegal aliens are bad, but we're too lazy to clean our own toilets, so we're going to make it legal to hire them." This loophole is so huge that it won't stop any illegal hiring whatsoever :(

Why? As Texas state Rep. Aaron Pena, also a Republican, told CNN, without the exemption, "a large segment of the Texas population" would wind up in prison if the bill became law.

Wait, that's not exactly true..

hiring an "unauthorized alien" a crime punishable by up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine

The law says jail is not mandatory.

If you want to hire Mexicans to be your servants, why not just move to a Hacienda across the border. I hear that for as little as 800 USD a month, you can live like a king...until you are robbed, but hey, at least then you wouldn't be the one breaking the law.

I suspect that many of the politicians have illegal aliens as household help.

I am embarrassed to say I live in Texas. I completely agree that employers of illegal/undocumented aliens should be finded or given jail time, however I don't think their should be an exception for those wealthy enough to afford hiring aliens as domestic help.

If you don't want to destroy the Texas economy, make the law effective one year from the day it becomes law. That way the illegal aliens have time to go back home, file for citizenship or move somewhere else...and those who have hired illegal aliens as domestic help can transistion to legal, documented aliens...or what ever.

It's a shame when we get a politician who understands the problem but then adds to other perverted twist to their original idea??? Which becomes a bill that most people will not support.

Bill Clinton was having such a hard time finding cabinet appointees that it got to be a joke.

I've seen a movie called "A Day Without A Mexican" where one day all the Mexicans disappear from L.A. It's not as funny as it could be but it's not bad. Netflix has is.
