Does anyone know of anything to get that "slow rev" out of the 4.6 V8 Gen2. I have the 08 STA with all kinds of mods but still have that slow rev or "slow to idle" or whatever you want to call it and it drives me nuts.

Most likley it is the electronic motorized throttle. The only way I know is the buy an XCAL3 from our sponsor Torrie and retune the ecu.

Also get a performance TB from ToddZ..at zabteck

Eddie, I have all that already! I am the one who bought the black STA from Doug (IceMan on here.. UIN2IT on Car Domain)....

Are you talking when you hit the gas the truck is slow to respond ???

Thats called Ramp in.......

I would think the Xcal programmer can get rid of that....

Todd.. that part is better than stock but still hesitates. But I'm talking about when you "rev" it up and it goes back down slowly.. down to idle slowwwwww. It's not like the 4.6 Mustangs.

Matbe Torrie can look at the tune and make some adjustments. Have you looked at the throttle blade and throuht. Might be some gunk around it. Causing a sticking on throttle down.

Yeah, Mine does that too....... I don't have my xcal yet, But once i get i am sure i will be playing with it...

I spoke with torrid about this very issue 2 years ago. Actually, maybe it was Dingo... Anyway.. Its an emissions thing. It drops from rev slowly to burn off anything remaining in the cylinder ... I think. It's been a while since I looks into it. I don't think you can eliminate it by any means and still pass a state inspection in the US.

Best way to get the response that I think you're looking for is a lighter flywheel.

Lighter engine internals throughout would help, aluminum underdrive accessories, balancing the engine, aluminum driveshaft, playing with the timing.

Ummm, I have to agree with Tom. I had the same question for Torrie and he couldn't change that. It might have something to do with having an automatic trannie. My '06 Mustang is the same way. The 5-speeds will definately rev up and down much faster. Bob

Bob..thanks! That is exactly what I'm talking about. I talked to friend of mine that is a Ford Tech and a Mustang freak and there is nothing you can do about it. There is two factors here.. automatic and something to do with the Idle Control Module or something like that. So, we are just stuck with it cause it don't change even with a tuner!

The Drive by wire Sport Trac and Mustang DO NOT have an IAC valve.... Sorry you said he is a Ford tech ???

The RPMS and ramp down are controlled by the Throttle position, Ignition timing, MAF air flow and TPS sensor......

The computer takes all those readings and adjusts it..

Todd Z

Todd.. yes he is and he said you can't change it or adjust it on the ST's with the 4.6. It's just gonna have that "slow rev".

+1 Psychocarey

Its an emissions thing. Remember the little idle dashpot on the old carbureter cars that did the same thing?

They prevents the emission of high levels of carbon monoxide during decelleration, and can also help improve driveabilty by reducing stalling.
