under upper manifold

after removing the upper manifold and the valve covers.

I stumbled upon a bag enclosed between the two sets of rocker arm assemblies.

i don't recall seeing this mentioned in the Haynes book, or any of the sorts in this web site.

What is this "bag" called and what does it do? sorry don't know how to get a picture uploaded to this web site

The bag is there to reduce noise, sorry but i don't know what it is called.

we are replacing head gaskets



Thanks for the web site, late bloomer as far as signing up but have surfed this site many a times. for some great info.

Any clues or surprises I may encounter as we delve into this job of replacing the head gaskets.
