Vin number decode for 72 mustang.

I am looking into buying two 72 mustangs (both need restore) for a really good price. Need to know how to decipher the vin number before I go look at the cars. The add says both have 302 motors in them. I need to know if the cars are Boss 302's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They only made Boss 302's in 1969 & 1970. They made a Boss 351 in 1971, which was the last of the Boss Series.

Let us know, we can dig out the info to decode the rest.

A boss 302 5th digit would be a G, a 71 boss 351 would be an R. a 351HO in 72 would be an also. other vins in 72 with a v8 would be

F 302

H 351 2V (C or W)

R 351HO

Q 351CJ

M 3514V
