Warranty Rental???

Well this is rather odd but I am asking anyway....

I used to take my Trac to a dealership for over a year for all my oil changes and Warranty work and the dealer closed down about 3 months ago...



So I was told to take it to a larger dealer in the Toronto area and I took it in last week to get some work done and the dealer was nice enough to to drop me off and pick me up when the truck was read.... They needed to order some parts for my Cruise Control and Latch for the tailgate... So I had to bring it back this morning......

At the old dealer they used give me a courtesy car when they did work on my truck.... This new dealer today said they would get me a car... So the Rental shows up and I had to pay for it??? I was shocked so I asked the service rep and he said oh we don't offer rentals or Courtesy cars... But he said because I was unaware that was the policy the dealership would pay for Half of the rental....



I am sorry but I think this is GARBAGE.... Is it policy for ford not to offer a replacement? With all other Truck I have had Chevy or Ford all other dealers have give a car while they did Warranty work on my trucks.



Anyone have any words of wisdom?

I think the loaner car is fastly becoming a thing of the past. Around here only the smaler "family" dealerships in small towns still do it and is subject to availibility. Im sure it has to do with the tighter compitition but dont think it is an american car company thing only.

I think that it varies dealer to dealer. I don't think that Ford Corporate has anything to do with it.

Ford basic warranty does not cover loaner vehicles or rentals, most dealerships now charge for there service replacement vehicle or they outsource to the rental companys due to the cost of the vehicles and upkeep on them. Most dealerships in our area do not have "Free" loaner vehicles and most have a rental company that they send the customer to.

We are only given a loaner at the Dealership where we bought the truck. This is their own courtesy to anyone who actually purchased the vehicle from them. The only problem is, they are located 100 miles from our home.



So for convenience; I have been taking the ST to the local dealer for warranty repairs and they would be happy to RENT me a car if I needed one. But, we already have an extra car so we don't need to rent one.



Most Dealers do not have loaner these days because of the insurance liabilities that are involved.

If you have the extended warranty Ford pays $27/day for a rental car if it is a warranty repair.

Of the four local dealers near me in SoCal none offers a free rental. However all four offer rentals if you pay.
