Does any one know what is the rule of thum for chosing tire size.

I know the comments about keeping the stock size intended, so just skip that comment. I have 265 75r16 and they seem to be rubbing. I bought the truck with these tires. I really like the way they look but it looks like I will have to lose them. The noise is driving me up the wall.

Is it true that you can go one size up or down?

Any suggestions?:)

It looks like the previous owner of your Trac put on some larger tires. The stock tire size either 255/70R16 or a smaller size (it escapes me at the moment). Some people have had no rubbing with the 267/75R16 tires if the tread is not aggressive. You've got three options I guess:

1. get a set of 255/70R16 tires

2. Trim the plastic in the rear wheel wells where the tires are rubbing

3. Do a torsion twist / spring shakle lift to get some extra clearance.

I'd suggest number 3, but that's just me.

You're already up a size. If you get the torison bars turned up an inch or so, they shouldn't rub on the front. Mine don't. Stock size, mostly, is 255/70-16 which is shorter than what's on it now.

I have 265/65-17 with almost no rubbing initially. The rubbing I had was on a protrusion of the inner fender that I fixed by heating it and flattening. Prior to the fix, it would rub only with almost full steering wheel turn and when hitting a bump, but not always - very minimal.

Edit:

I should have noted that the tires are on 17x8" with 3.5" backspace, which pushes the centerline out .5" (without a spacer). 3.75" backspace would have worked too.

Thanks everyone good responses and information. I found out that I can use spacers that will push it out the tire a bit stopping the rubbing and increasing the turning range. I think however, that I may just give in and scale down back to the stock size tires.
