so, I got the snowblower working good again, it's a craftsman 2 stage going on 9 years old and been a dependable machine but hypothetically if I wanted to start researching for a new one next year what would be the best one? Been looking at Ariens, reading some good things. John deere- not so sure, maybe 10 years ago but nowadays maybe not. Toro? Simplicity? Are there some other brands out there I haven't come across yet? budget would be around $1000-1300.

I would recomend any one with a Briggs & Stratton engine. I even replaced the engine on a 25 year old blower with one. Very reliable.

not sure what all the options are for snowblowers....I did buy a new Dixie Chopper mower with a Kawasaki engine last summer and was told buy several dealers that unless you get into the bigger professional models of B&S engines they aren't very good...Kawasaki's are showing up a lot less in the shops. I don't know if the same applies with snowblowers though. I assume it would be like asking someone what the best car is...everybody will have a different opinion

NcstateWolfpacker- yep i was stationed at ft. Bragg for a couple years and we northerners used to laugh at the cars running into the ditch with 1/4" of snow. Amateurs!!

Brother-in-law bought a Husqvarna last winter. He seems to like it.

My neighbors and my lawnmower probably wouldn't appreciate me buying a snowblower since my driveway is limestone gravel. Instead I use a Yamaha Wolverine ATV with a plow blade. The neighbors give me beer when I plow their driveways and don't break their windows. :driving::haveabeer:

We're actually in a state of emergency here in the midlands of SC today. Everything is closed, and the governor is asking everyone to stay off the roads. I have about an inch of sleet so far, but it's supposed to keep coming down for the next 24 hours.

It'll be in the sixties this weekend.
