Why is 93 Octane needed if the truck is chipped? What are the major differences between the 87 and 93. SOrry to repost, i know there is a 87 vs. 93 post already, but it really goes off topic from the main question. Why 93!!

Chips can be tuned for greater power by advancing the ignition timing but this requires higher octane fuel or the engine with get spark-knock (pre-ignition) which can severly damage the engine.

It is also possible to get a performance tuned chip that is not as agressive and will run on 87 octane gas.

If your ST is performance tuned, it doesn't have to be run on 93 octane. At least with the XCals they can be configured for use with 87. But as Rich indicated above, if it's tuned for 93, use it. I'm currently using my premium tune with 91 octane and I love it!

93.. Whats that ??.... 100 BABY !!!!!!!!
