i had the unfortunate experience of having my left front bearing failat 70 miles per hr recently... i was able to avoid killing my self and anyone else but the situation resulted in considerable suspension damage , to balljoint, roto , wheel hub, axle etc ..quite expesive to repair. car has 59000 miles (out of warranty) but still do not think this should hsve occurred Anyone else had a problem like this ? will Ford care ? any ideas appreciated thanks

You say "car" in your post. Was it your Trac or a car?

Give me the specs on it. I'll send you a list of locations you can get a knee section that will have the control arms, spindle and bearing.

2 or 4 wheel drive?????

If it is for your Trac it is not a common failure. There have been a few listed here. Compared to the many members at the site this is a less than 1% event..

Did it just fail??? No noise from it prior to the failure???

When I was younger, a friend locked up both front wheels at 70mph, brand new Olds 442. Further inpection revealed the factory assembled with no grease in the bearings.

59k, probably been through at least 3 sets of brakes, knowing how the ST eats 'em.... would figure that they would have ID'd bearings going bad. You would also suspect that there would be noise before complete failure.

Factories, and their suppliers, for that matter, only put a minimum amount of

grease and/or lubricants in their suspension components to save pennies a car on

assembly costs. That is why, as soon as possible, at least by the first scheduled

3-6 thousand mile maintenance, I usually pull apart and inspect, or grease any

greaseable fittings, bearings, etc... Anyone here in the know may have read

recently that 2001-2004 dodge dakotas and durangos also had a front suspension

problem that some independant engineers attributed to either an engineering

problem and/or a lack of factory lubricant in the front ball joints. This goes to

show you!

Trust your instincts and the members on this site, and not always your stealership,

to give you good advice. I believe, if you had the brakes done at the dealer,

part of the scheduled maintenance for those miles should have included a front

wheel bearing inspection and service. Hope this helps...

Can anyone provide step by step instructions fro changing the frone wheel bearings on my 2004 trac? Thanks
