I have 165000 mile on my sportstrac and I think the front wheel bearing are bad .I have grease on the drives side shock and on the right side I hear a whissle . Is it very hard to change just the bearings or do i need to replace the hole hub.

The bearing style you have is a sealed bearing, it really does not get grease from the axle assembly. So, the grease is coming from somewhere, but not the wheel bearings.

You may have a defective inner axle seal, if so, it will allow the gear lube to leak past and get on the axle shaft and thus get thrown about.

That is not to say you don't have bad bearings, but the two items are not directly connected.

did you check your cv boots for pinholes? A lot of grease shoots out of even the smallest hole in the boot.
