Why the red "sport trac" on the tailgate on some

Only been a Sport Trac owner for 15K miles now but as I look around at other sport tracs, one thing I have noticed is that on some, the word SPORT TRAC is in Red while on others it its not. Why?

year 01 and 02 I believe. Changed for 03. Same time they removed the word Explorer from the doors.

2001 to 2002 and maybe early 2003, but 2001 and 2002 for sure have the Red/White ST badge on them.........2003 and up went to the crome/black badge

From what I've seen of the badges on the '07 the Limiteds have Sport Trac in red letters and the XLTs have lazer cut chrome (or black painted) letters.

I have an 01 and I had one that I debadged... dont have it anymore... but I do have the explorer letters in my garage

Gently heat the letters and use fishing line or dental floss to "saw" behind the letters. I also used a popsicle stick to assist in popping them off.
