Why are the 2003 sport trac's rear axles leaf springs on the bottom of the axle

So it makes it easier to lower it. Essentially, that is the way it was designed. There is no perfect position to mount the springs. Over the axle, under the axle. I am just happy there are springs there.

AGREED !!!!!!! :D:D

That's the way Ford designed it. Mine is at the bottom of the axle so as my 1967 and 1973 Mustangs. Most Chevrolets the springs are on top of the axle.

Most cars seem to be below the axle, while most trucks are above the axle. I don't guess it really matters all that much. Just whatever fits your particular layout when you design the car.
