i m wondering if i should by a 4300 lbs travel trailer and haul it with my 4 liters v6 2010 xlt st can i do that or am i asking too much out of the trac thanks

Depending on which hitch setup you currently have you may already be over the maximum weight. Even with the largest hitch the 4.0 is only rated at 5300 lbs. If the trailer you are looking at is 4300 lbs dry (which is probably being conservative as they don't include options installed afterwards) you may be looking at being over once you load it up.

It will pull it but it will be quite a strain on the vehicle.

What Caymen said.... an empty weight of 4300 isn't gonna be good, as your gear, fluids, accesories, food, beer, firewood, will add up real quick to over your limit. somewhere on the trailer should be a weight sticker reflecting an as delivered weight. for best results, take it to a scale. the total weight needs to be under the GCWR of the whole rig. Mine weghed 4050 empty, as delivered, and we out fitted the trailer with all light weight gear, pot, pans, glasses, chairs etc. Every time we go somewhere, I'm at the limit. It tows it OK, but it is not as fun as it used to be, as I'm down on power due to age and mileage. I need new O2 sensors and cats next, along with a seafoam treatment.

I tow a 5200# (dry) travel trailer with my Gen 2 V8 and it is a stretch. Hills are either 5000+ RPM or 45 MPH at 3500. The V8 AWD STA is rated at 6900.

My 2001 V6 Did OK with a 2000# boat, but I'd not go much more without brakes. I have brakes on my Travel trailer.

IMO if there were a V8 version of the 4.0 architecture, It would probably do better than the modular 4.6. Too bad I could not get a 5.4 in the ST. Considering an (ghasp!) Avalanche, but no 6.0 avail in that and the Pushrod 5.3 may be about the same in that heavier truck.

I-do-not-want-an-F250-or-larger-truck...
