Currently have 2010 XLT 4.0 with 72K miles. Just decided due to being 13 yrs old it's time for a transmission fluid change. Fluid looked clean but thought P.M. service would be proactive. Who's performed differential service and a what mileage?

I’ve done my transmission every 100k KMs. I know I’ve never done my front differential and was meaning to do it here soon. Rear differential every 60k KMs, just did it last weekend. All pretty easy to do.

Personal preference here for Trans+TCase+Diffs service is every 33kMiles\4Years.
Also HandPump 3/4qt ATF from Trans DipTube & 1/4qt from Steering, then a fresh qt of MerconV to both,
every 6mths along with routine Engin Oil+Filter.

Factory service interval for the 5R55E is 90,000 miles. IMO, too far regardless of vehicle use. I did a complete ATF fluid exchange with filter at 60,000 miles. Caught a special years ago at my local dealership that included 20 quarts of Motorcraft Mercon V, filter, and gasket for $199. Don't believe I'll ever see a deal like that again.

6R60 seems much more robust compared to the 5R55E and I'm not sure what Ford recommends. This also the same company that says "lifetime" differential fluid that doesn't require changing. Yeah, right. I've read anywhere from 30,000 to a 120,000 miles for the 6R60 on various forums, but earlier is always better regardless of whether you're towing or other severe duty use.

my rear diff was rebuilt by a previous owner at 85k. I did a differential oil change at 150k, it came out looking pretty nasty.
So I plan to do it at 200 and 250k, and will re-evaluate after that.. ha.

Just do it now..... Fuel filter too and all that other stuff....

What about one of the shift improvement kits? How technical does that get? I am confident about doing filter and fluid. But the inside of a transmission intimidates me and I need this transmission hahaha

Really a matter your confidence in your own ability to study what others have done, make reasonable logical technical choices, and of course your own technical wrenching abilities, space and tools.
