    Fog lights with high beam

RichardL - "Don't own a Trac anymore " Long, contrarian, diatribes in forums for cars you don't own anymore? Sounds depressing.

If your 4.0 SOHC timing chain rattles...

Well Ed, my only addition is to mention priming the tensioners before installing them. That is someone else who posted the youtube videos. I tried your "crank before start" and I like it. Definitely gets rid of the initial growl at start. Sound advice, especially if the truck had been...

Well...crap (O/D light blinking, tranny busted)

I don't believe your guy saying "2nd gear is gone". You only have 105k miles. Blinking O/D light can mean a lot of different things. As Richard pointed out is could be as simple as a solenoid. That does not cost 2k to replace. You can buy a whole new valve body with upgrades for...

If your 4.0 SOHC timing chain rattles...

If your chain only rattles on start-up and then goes away once it warms up... Then you should change the tensioners as described in the link (watch parts one and two) One thing the presenter fails to mention is that you must pump up the new tensioners with oil before installing...

    5r55s band adjustment

You did the right thing Dan. I'm willing to bet that your trans will run fine for much longer than a few months. Another compelling reason to do this is the fact that as the bands wear the servos have to move further to engage the bands, This longer stroke of the servo starts to wear the...

Yep, and they were all wrong. But it's OK, everything is clear now.

    6 Months of Ownership

I did a little test with AT-205 reseal. I had a distributor o-ring that had fossilized on a 27 year old cologne 2.9L v-6. No problem easy to replace. The old o-ring broke into a few pieces. They were hard and brittle. I took the remnant pieces of that o-ring and put them in a little...

4.0L SOHC Metal Reinforced Timing Chain Guides Possible?

Yes, the 4.0L went from around 165hp to 210hp with the addition of the overhead cam. Which is very respectable. But I probably would have been just as happy with some minor tweaks to the older OHV engine. They probably could have gotten it up to 185 or so if they bumped the compression to...

4.0L SOHC Metal Reinforced Timing Chain Guides Possible?

Even the old 2.9L had a plastic chain guide. Most chain guides on other vehicles are also plastic. In some cases there have been upgrades to the plastic guides, like early Jag XK8 that were often done under warranty. It's possible the 4.0 SOHC's guides have been improved in the aftermarket...

    serpentine belt

Depends on the brand. Gates is the only brand that I have found that lasts. The cheaper brands start to squeal in short order, especially in cold weather.

    Lowest Size

IMHO the stock tire size of P235/70/16 is too small and I do not think it is wise to go any smaller 245/75/16 will fit fine and is a nice compromise between P235/70/16 and the maximum fitment which is 265/70/16.

Gas station pump shutting off prematurly

This happened on my 2003 Gen 1. A bug had spun a cocoon in the gas vent hose that comes off of the filler neck under the rear fender. 5 minute fix. Not sure about the gen 2 though.

    Synthethic Transmission fluid

It sounds scary, but it isn't. Trans is not under any kind of load, plenty of residual lube. Just shut it off when the flow subsides. Not my first rodeo...

    Synthethic Transmission fluid

I changed around 80k. I let it self pump out the tranny cooler line and then dropped the pan and changed the filter. I think it took about 8-9 quarts of Mobil 1 ATF. I am now over 100k miles and it still shifts great.
