    Timing Chain Tensioner's replacement

Yes, the rear hydraulic tensioner is located on the right side of the engine block, toward the rear. It puts pressure on the plastic chain tensioner, that rides on the timing chain. Some people can get to it from the top of the engine, but I had better luck by removing the right front...

    Fixing overhead console

Chucksos, when you remove the console from the truck to repair it, be careful. When mine failed, one of the resistors had completely fallen off the board, and was loose in the enclosure. The resister is small enough to fall out of the plastic enclosure. When I repaired mine, when I opened up...

    Collapsed Radiator Hose 2010 ST

4.0 liter is really hard to purge of air. I always had trouble purging it. They sell a vacuum purger which would make it easier, but I used the big radiator fill funnel they sell at Harbor Freight (cheap) and other places. Don’t overfill the funnel during the process because then it becomes a...

2005 ST XLT - Thermostat Housing Replacement

Also, replace the bolts when you replace the thermostat housing. The aluminum housings should come with new ones. The old ones tend to be rusty.

Parts Wanted 2007 XLT lug nuts for the stock aluminum wheels.

I broke one lug nut cover off of my 1990 Ranger while changing a tire in a foot of snow while going over a pass. Was not happy that the tire wrench did not fit the bolt size under the pretty chrome cap. Fortunately my wife suggested I use the large vice grips in the tool box. I was skeptical...

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

I said goodbye to my 2001 Sport Trac with 127K miles. Purchased it used in 2005 as we needed a truck with a back seat for our baby daughter's car seat. In August we took the Sport Trac on a 2,800 mile road trip to Colorado to drop her off at college. Along the way, someone backed into the...

    Ford Vehicle Security System

Like Tim asked, can you provide more detail about the situation when it stalls? Driving down the road at partial throttle? When idling? Going around turns? Right after starting? Does it start back up after stalling? Also, do you have any stored trouble codes or check engine light...

Look what came out of my truck today

Now Blert, you are such a social influencer. I’ve replaced most of the usual suspects on my 2001, but the plug wires are still original. Only 121K miles, but the age! Guess the wires are next!

2001 Sport Trac V6 - Upper oil pan bolt specs

Hi Dillard! You are a database for sure! The missing bolts I want to replace are on the upper “girdle”. I think I have narrowed down the search to a couple of possible sizes based on the website swshawaii pointed me to.

2001 Sport Trac V6 - Upper oil pan bolt specs

Thank you swshawaii. I bookmarked the FPG site for future reference. Very helpful, although in this case it has only narrowed down the size selection. Will probably head to the hardware store next and buy a few different options. M8 x 45 mm or M6x20 mm is my guess now.

2001 Sport Trac V6 - Upper oil pan bolt specs

So, while crawling under my truck working on the heater control valve and hoses, I noticed that I appear to be missing two UPPER oil pan bolts. May explain (some) of the oil leaks. Location is the front passenger side. The corner bolt is there, but there are two missing adjacent to it on...

2001 Sport Trac Job 1 Engine - Need help with Heater Control Valve and hose

Hi people! I think the heater hose that goes from my water pump to the heater control valve is leaking. It looks like it is at the connection to the water pump. The leak started yesterday, and we were lucky to see it dripping before we drove away. Need some advise and assurance to get me...

Pre/Post timing chain issues of early Gen1

In these old trucks, it is good to worry about the “frozen nuts and bolts”, and use plenty of PB Blaster etc. My additional concern on the 2001 Gen 1 Job 1 engine that I have, is the plastic upper intake manifold- the one that looks like a pretzel. It attaches to the lower plastic intake...

Pre/Post timing chain issues of early Gen1

Like Dillard says, the right rear one is easy to get at if you Jack up the truck and remove the right front tire. Support truck on Jack stand and remove the wheel well splash guard (if you have one). You can then see the chain tensioner and (and spark plugs!) I use several long extensions and a...

Hydraulic Chain Tensioner and oil restrictor - looking for advise

Hello! I'm working on a '01 Sport Trac 4WD with a V6 SOHC Job 1 engine, and about 120K miles. Laundry list includes replacing upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, replacing OEM plastic thermostat housing with Austekk housing from Zabteck, replacing timing chain tensioners, replacing EGR...

Check Engine comes on when driving 65+ mph sustained

Maybe this is an unrelated issue to your harmonic balancer. Might be a fuel delivery issue at higher fuel demand. Fuel filter or maybe fuel pump. Also if the evaporative fuel system is not working correctly, you can get a vacuum in the tank, reducing fuel flow.
