I've read in some places that there are 2 sizes that come in a lower balljoint. Regular I guess it would be called and oversized depending on the ID of the hole? How do you tell which one is needed unless you remove the old one?

Also wondering if that ball joint can be changed in 2 hours.

Guys my '03 ST has developed a squeak in the front suspension. Hear it almost all the time especially after getting a couple of loads of mulch yesterday. When I push up and down on the front bumper I can hear it on the passenger side front. Sounds like a dry bushing kinda sound. Any ideas on...

Coil got rid of most of the miss if not all of it. I STILL am hearing that clattering noise. Not as bad but still. I know its not inherent to the 4.0 because the one I had 265,000 miles on didn't do it as far as I can recall. Does anybody else hear a clattering noise like loose rocker arms...

Man! 19 hours? That's what it takes to flip the long block. Guess its because you're pulling and reinstalling the engine to do the job. I'm not the level of mechanic that could tackle that job nor do I have the specialized tools to do it. Looks like the miss in the engine is the coil anyway...

Has anybody ever rebuilt a 4.0 SOHC engine before or had to time the cams and chains? How labor intensive is it? I understand it takes some very specialized tools. Just wondering what a dealer would charge in hours to do something like that. Thanks gents.

OMG! I go out there this morning and checked around and found the coolant recovery tank bone dry and the radiator a few inches below full! Filled it back up and drove it around and it didn't suck that up. Slight miss is still there though. Still gonna take it back to the dealer today and drop it...

Not sure my confidence in Dahmer Powertrain is as strong as it once was. While I appreciated them kicking in an extra $50 an hour toward installing the 3rd engine that is going in this week after the $1500 labor cap was eaten up on the first bad engine they sent, appears they are playing...

Well Dahmer was able to get another engine from their supplier. Said that the result of the independent inspection resulted in validation that the noise is there in the front of the engine and that the engine running rough. Said it could be the cassette but that that is an 8-9 hour job so they...

Replaced pensioners and STILL making clattering noise. Waiting on rebuilder for direction. Dealer STILL saying it's also internal to this 2nd engine. We will never know if replacing the tensioner in the last one would have fixed it or not. What a flipping nightmare!

Has anybody ever replaced the tensioner on an '03 ST 4.0 on the drivers side? Hard or easy? Have to pull the intake?

Got some more specifics from the rebuilder. The left hand tensioner that failed is up by or on the head and they said it could have reasonably been missed by the visual inspection made by the dealer. I'm still not convinced that with the clattering noise it was making that the dealer shouldn't...
